About This Project
The first set of costumes were white with bold spray paint dots. They never made it to stage. Barbara Matera designed them and Charlie Anderson (a corps dancer) painted them. I remember the boys had covered buttons on their unitards. The woman were never finished. Dick pulled black costumes from stock (with the help of Heather Watts who was interested in design). Years later he dressed everyone in cute black leotards and skirts from a different ballet that I designed for him. When it was filmed for Dance in America, Dick had me design some jazzier versions. These same costumes were made for Ballet West in Utah but my simple versions were recreated at Pacific Northwest Ballet in Seattle. Toulouse, France made their own version, much to Mr. Tanner's chagrin.
