About This Project

I was thrilled to travel to Paris and work with Benjamin Millepied, a dancer with American Ballet Theatre and a noted choreographer, and with famous abstract artist Daniel Buren. He's best-known for his black-and-white striped works, which he creates with gouache and paper or fabric. We all met at a Parisian cafe to conceptualize the ballet’s designs. Daniel would design the sets. At the meeting, they mostly spoke French, and I was so excited that I could follow them.

The finished production was streamlined, but beautiful, and the dancers were excellent. I had the fabric milled according to my specifications, and it moved beautifully on the stage of the opulent Palais Garnier.
